The Meaning Of The 4th Of July!
..."Oh, there have been revolutions before and since ours. But those revolutions simply exchanged one set of rules for another. Ours was a revolution that changed the very concept of government.
Let the Fourth of July always be a reminder that here in this land, for the first time, it was decided that man is born with certain God-gi...ven rights; that government is only a convenience created and managed by the people, with no powers of its own except those voluntarily granted to it by the people.
We sometimes forget that great truth, and we never should.
Happy Fourth of July. "
~Written in his own hand by Ronald Reagan President of the United States 1981
BTW: Though the media consistently attempted to portray Ronald Reagan as an "amiable dunce," ordinary American citizens knew this was not the case. Reagan was an exceptionally well-read leader -- a man who knew his history. He was also a prolific writer. He wrote many of his own speeches, kept an exhaustive daily diary and wrote thousands of letters -- many in his own hand.
Those who worked for Reagan attested to the fact that he was an astute editor as well. He knew the power of words and was able to convey more with a few words than many of today's leaders can convey with thousands of words.
Obviously, no holiday brought Reagan more pleasure than the 4th of July. That's because he knew and understood the true meaning of the day.
