Believe it or not, but "Weird" Al said it best...

When it comes to commenting on Christina Aguilera's Super Bowl flub, a recent Tweet by infamous musical parodist "Weird" Al Yankovic said it best.

BTW, Christina Aguilera, nice job at the Super Bowl, but changing the words to songs is MY gig.

How I Picked The Super Bowl Winner

Like I said, I don't know the first thing about sports.
I'm not a fan.
And I never played the game.
I know so little about football that it's almost shameful. And I freely admit it.
Still, more than 24 hours before the Big Game, right here on this blog, I predicted the winner of the Super Bowl.
How did I do it?
The answer is simple: For the past four years the team that generated the most chatter on the Internet won the game. It hasn't failed once. This year, Green Bay generated the most chatter. And Green Bay won.
That's five years in a row that this system has worked.
In the month before the game, the Packers garnered nearly 10% more chatter than the Steelers. So, they won.

Christina Aguilera Screws Up National Anthem on Super Bowl

The Super Bowl. The most-watched television event in America. A sporting event as American as apple pie. And Christina Aguilera - a professional singer who earns a gazillion dollars to remember the words to a variety of musical numbers - forgets the words to The Star Spangled Banner.

It was instantly noticeable. And pretty much unforgivable.

Now I know it could have been a case of nerves. And plenty of other people have goofed up when singing the song. But Christina Aguilera is not your typical singer. She's more than a professional; she's a super-star. She's also a natural-born America citizen. So there's really no excuse.

I don't know about you, but I can't go a matter of weeks without hearing our national anthem. I learned it as a child and know it by heart. I still get caught up in the words and tears occasionally well up when I hear the song's first stanzas. It's more than a song. It represents what's great about this country. Our never-say-die attitude. Our love of freedom. That this is the greatest place in the world. And if you're an American, you damn well better know the words.

Show some pride Christina!

Here's Why They Can't Say 'Super Bowl'

Why do retailers simply call it the "Big Game"?
Why don't they say "Super Bowl"?
Well, a nice column at Yahoo Sports gives the answer. In part, here's how it's explained:

Advertisers pay huge amounts of money to become an official sponsor of the NFL. In doing so, they buy the right to use league logos, game footage, branding and the trademarked phrases "Super Bowl" and "Super Sunday." Companies that don't pay the premium resort to "ambush marketing" to get around this, hence generic phrases like "big game" and the use of non-NFL jerseys and game footage.
How much does it cost to become an official sponsor? It varies depending on the product, but for big advertisers the price can be astronomical. Anheuser-Busch is reportedly paying $1.2 billion over the next six years to become the exclusive beer of the NFL. The deal doesn't give advertising exclusivity to Budweiser (you'll see commercials from Miller Lite and Coors as well), but the Anheuser-Busch ads will be the only ones that can use NFL imagery and trademarks.
The NFL is vigilant in protecting its copyrighted phrases. Some small, local retailers may sneak by using "Super Sunday" in an ad, but generally the league's team of lawyers is successful in finding rogue advertisers and shutting them down with a cease and desist letter.
So, now you know.
Only official corporate sponsors can use the words "Super Bowl" or "Super Sunday" in advertising.
This is America. It's all about the money, baby.

Packers Or Steelers? Here's The Answer . . .

The whole country's wondering who will win the Super Bowl.
Millions -- probably even billions -- will be spent on this. Many gambling debts will pile up.
This will also be the subject of miles of columns of type and speculation between now and the end of the game on Sunday. The chatter, back and forth, will be relentless. Much energy will be spent arguing about who will win.
But I already know the winner.
True, I don't know the first thing about sports in general and virtually nothing about football. As Howard Cossell once said: "I never played the game." Worse yet, I never even followed it or studied it or watched very much of it.
And I don't particularly care who wins, though I do like the Steelers. I've never been to Green Bay but I have been to Pittsburgh and I like the town and its people. Great city. Great spirit. True grit.
But that's really besides the point.
The question here is: "Who will win the game?"
This must be a cold, calculated judgment.
So, I've followed what appears to be a foolproof method to pick the winner. Since its inception, this method hasn't been wrong.
Who will win?
It'll be the Green Bay Packers.
After the game is over, I'll tell you how I came to this conclusion.

HOW Much Pizza Do We Need For The Super Bowl?

1,200 tons of pizza dough.
90,000 gallons of pizza sauce.
That's how much Pizza Hut will need to fill 1.3 million orders for at least 2 million pies on Super Bowl Sunday this weekend.
That's a helluva lotta pizza.
And we haven't even gotten to the cheese. Right, Green Bay fans?
